On 9 May 2009 eSafetyAware assisted Continental in carring out an eCall demonstration at the Berlaymont building - headquarter of the European Commission - during the public open day which gathered more than 55.000 visitors. A Continental car equipped with eCall was placed at the front entrance of the building and many visitors took the opportunity to test the eCall system. The demonstration was achieved with the aid of a simulated emergency centre placed in the DG INFSO stand within the Berlaymont building. Visitors also received explanations from eSafetyAware Project Manager Irina Patrascu on how the system works and could follow the incoming calls on the screen when the eCall button in a car was triggered. Many visitors expressed their enthusiasm about its usefulness after having experienced the funtion of eCall.
