Euro NCAP to Announce New Initiative at eSafety Challenge 2010

At the upcoming eSafety Challenge event, Euro NCAP will announce changes to its vehicle rating system making eSafety systems an essential component in achieving a high safety evaluation during its acclaimed crash-test.

The new rating system will, for the first time, consider the safety potential of advanced driver assistance technologies such as electronic stability control.

From 2009 onwards, a continual increase in demand for eSafety systems is anticipated, making it progressively more challenging to achieve the acclaimed 5 star rating based on the current assessment criteria.

The new system will be introduced to demonstrate the importance of all-round safety performance, and allow future inclusion of new emerging safety technologies set to innovate the future of road safety.

But that’s not all Euro NCAP has up its sleeves. With the star rating system providing a solid platform for overall safety, Euro NCAP is planning to highlight the importance of new advanced safety features on offer by manufacturers.

This new initiative, to be formally announced at the eSafety Challenge, will be launched at the Paris Motor Show on 1 October 2010, where Euro NCAP will be rewarding selected car manufacturers for their innovation in advanced safety features. Both the eSafety Challenge and the 2010 Paris Motor Show will therefore present a unique opportunity for Euro NCAP to present its new initiative and share this exciting development for the future of safer cars.
