Rome 2009

The eSafety truck was present at the eSafety Challenge event, organised by eSafetyAware and funded by FIA Foundation and the European Commission. More than 300 delegates and journalists have participated at the event which was held at the Vallelunga circuit close to Rome on 8-9 September 2009. Those present were able to visit the eSafety truck, try the ESC simulator and receive more information about the 5 eSafety technologies promoted: Electronic Stability Control, Lane Support Systems, Blind Spot Monitoring, Warning and Emergency Braking Systems and Speed Alert.
During the official visit, the delegates were welcomed at the eSafety truck by Mr. Jean Todt, President of eSafety Aware who reiterated eSafetyAware’s commitment to create awareness among car users about eSafety and the role it plays in assisting the driver in dangerous road situations.
Eight-time 24 Hour champion, Tom Kristensen was also present to offer his support as the Ambassador of the Danish eSafety campaign which was launched by eSafetyAware on 4 June 2009 in Copenhagen. In his speech, he stressed the importance of informing car buyers about the safety systems that can assist them in dangerous situations on the road. Talking about his own choices when it comes to safety, Tom Kristensen has told those present: ‘I would always make sure that the car I use on the roads is as safe as possible as you never know what happens around the next corner and the outcome might not be up to you no matter how good a driver you think you are’.
The newly signed Ferrari driver, Giancarlo Fisichella has also made a convincing plead supporting these technologies: ‘Even as an experienced racing driver, it’s easy to make a mistake on the road. Nothing is more important than the safety of my family, so when I am driving I like to know that the latest safety features are installed on my car. This way, if I do make a mistake, or another driver makes one that has an impact on me, we are protected. Why would you not want that?’
